You should use this service in any of these cases:
There are two types of alternative online voting systems that you can actually use instead of Igloovote:
If you need privacy and integrity, and you want to avoid depending on trustees, Igloovote is your solution.
You can use it for a real election if you trust us to safeguard the process. Many online services just provide a guarantee based on your trust on the provider. That said, we do not provide any legal biding to guarantee that our servers will not be compromised while your voting takes place. The purpose of this free service is only letting you test how our technology works.
Even if you configure it so that our non-supervised technology is effective, it actually doesn't provide enough guarantees that the process is not corrupted if an intruder accesses our servers.
If you need full guarantees for a legaly biding election contact us and we will work with you to establish a protocol to guarantee the incorruptibility of the election in all possible cases, and without depending on any trustee.
Every time you use our voting service you will make use of both technologies.
The non-supervised technology requires more time to vote but assures that:
The supervised technology requires no time to vote (it's counted instantly) but:
Depending on the configuration that you use the percentage of votes using a technology or another will vary. The form to submit the information will inform you of an stimation of votes using each technology.
Actually there is no limit. Use it with a few voters to understand the process and then use it with real voters.
You can use it for free for up to 50,000 voters per month. We reserve the right to cancel any voting at any time if we consider that it is a dishonest use or for any other reason.
After the period for voting is finished the administrator will receive an email with a link to get the results.
You can implement:
The only difference is that surveys don't have an option to abstain
Introduce an email per voter. Every voter will receive an email hours before the beginning of the election. In that email they will get an unique link to vote. You can introduce the emails in the form (separated by spaces or carriage returns) or in a CSV file (separated by carriage returns).
They will receive an email with a unique link to vote. This link must be keep secret to avoid anyone else voting for them.
Once the period for voting is open (the period for voting will be informed in the email), the voters can use the link to access a web page to vote.
They can use any modern browser to vote but we recommend Chrome or Firefox.
They can vote from any device with a Internet connection, but they have to think that the connection must remain available for all the time needed to vote. Remember that the advantages of the non-supervised technology have the cost of needing up to two minutes to vote. If the connection is lost while they are voting their vote will not be received, so in case their device cuts off Internet connection to the browser after a few seconds of inactivity (tipically on smartphones) they should take care to keep the screen active until the vote is completed. They can write free comments about the matter voted or the voting process if they like (these opinions will be anonym but not by means of a secure technology like the one used to vote).
Only once and only for one option.
It depends on the configuration set by the administrator and the number of voters voting at the same time. The administrator will establish a maximum time a user will remain waiting for more voters so that the non-supervised technology can work. If after that period there aren't enough voters connected, a supervised voting place will take place, working instantaneusly (but under the cost of lower security).
